Dongjoo Jung is a New York-based interdisciplinary designer and an international design award winner, and he used to work at Lissoni Inc which is established by Piero Lissoni.

Coffee beans inspired his “Espresso Series”. Making coffee everyday was a typical daily routine for him, but one day he captured this unconscious moment as the inspiration.

Based on the inspiration, Dongjoo firstly created Espresso Stool last year, and he got the Iron A’Design Award.

Although stools have long been considered as a part of various types of chairs, due to its own functional or structural limitation, it was hard to create a well-balanced stool that is satisfied two aspects: ergonomics and aesthetics. Based on the inspiration, Espresso Stool is an ergonomic and aesthetic chair.

He researched human body structure, and materials to harmonize both the aesthetic aspect and the ergonomic aspect.

Espresso Stool is conceptually and functionally well balanced. The shape of it is from coffee beans, and through adding a narrow felt band on the middle of the seat, both softness and rigidness are appropriately harmonized.

Dongjoo decided to create Espresso Series, and he launched Espresso Table this year as a continuing series.

At this time, he tried to keep the inspiration and the concept, but he more focused on the structure of the table and materiality. He researched the relationship between architectural structures and materials, such as metal, wood, leather, and fabric, to make it a well-balanced concept and structure conceptually and structurally.
